Tropical Sensation
Hello lovely greenies, and welcome to another Saturday green find. This week I’m going to let you in on one of my newest beauty secrets – organic virgin coconut oil. Not only does this luscious oil smell like the tropics, it really does the trick for moisturizing dry summer skin.
I’ve been battling dry skin for the past year because of severe nutrient deficiencies. My skin went from healthy glowing perfection, to a dull dry nightmare in no time flat. I’ve tried a myriad of products over the past twelve months in an attempt to recapture my youthful glow, but I’ve kept coming up short. The products were either too greasy, causing my skin to break out, or they just didn’t give my skin the moisture it so desperately needed. I was beginning to think I’d never find anything to cure my dry skin woes, that is until I discovered my little jar of miracles sitting on a shelf at Whole Foods (I love them!).
There it was, sitting there in all it’s $6.99 glory. I thought I’d give it a try - what did I have to lose? If I didn’t like it I could use it to make some kind of Asian dish, right? Long story short, it was exactly what I had been looking for. Not only has it been helping to heal my dull, dry skin (thank you God!), but it’s been a very affordable skin treatment as well. $6.99 for a 14 ounce jar. When was the last time you were able to purchase 14 ounces of anything to put on your skin that was priced under $7.00?
So here’s some of the skinny on organic virgin coconut oil:
- Coconut oil is loaded with fatty acids, including lauric acid, an essential fatty acid also found in breast milk.
- Organic virgin coconut oil has been found to be an effective treatment for keratosis pilaris – those rough bumps on the backs of the arms that are often mistaken for acne.
- Virgin coconut oil retains it lovely coconut scent since it has not undergone any refining processes.
- Coconut oil also makes a great hair treatment as well. Simply apply to hair and let sit one hour, then rinse thoroughly.
A little heads up: coconut oil naturally solidifies once it reaches cooler
temperatures. No need to worry though, it’s hasn’t gone off. Simply put your jar in some warm water for a few minutes, and it will liquefy once again. If you’d like your oil to stay in its solid state (it’s more like a balm this way) you can store it in the refrigerator.
Enjoy!
