It’s Saturday once again – hurray – and it’s an absolutely beautiful Saturday around my house today, so this green find edition’s going to be short and sweet. When I say sweet, I mean that literally.
Cocoa butter, made from cocoa beans – the key ingredient in chocolate – makes an excellent moisturizer. It’s rich in fats, and contains natural antioxidants which help to prolong its shelf life. Some believe cocoa butter may help to heal stretch marks, burns, and scars over time, however there is no scientific evidence to prove such claims.
Scientific evidence or not, I love cocoa butter. It works wonderfully for dry, chapped skin, and makes an excellent lip balm. Plus – and this is the good part – it smells absolutely heavenly! Yes, it smells just like chocolate, and has a mild chocolaty flavor to it as well. I really love NOW brand cocoa butter – look for it in your local natural/health food stores, or online. It’s inexpensive (about $9 for a 7 ounce jar), 100% natural, doesn’t contain any fillers or preservatives, and is food grade – which means you could eat it (which you do when your indulge in your favorite chocolate bar).
My skincare philosophy is this – if I can eat it, then I’ll put it on my skin.
Enjoy the weekend! Peace.

The older I get, the heavier I need my lotions. Cocoa butter is great and the greener the better.
