Garden-Themed Charm Bracelet

I Love Charm Bracelets!   I think they’re, well…charming!

If there’s one thing I love more than dark chocolate, it’s charm bracelets!  OK, I’d have to say I love all jewelry more than dark chocolate, but most girls would second that I think.

There’s something extremely feminine about a charm bracelet.  I love how each bracelet tells a little story.  They’re like little frozen moments in time, a little book of memoirs poised on the wrist.

I have lots of charms and charm bracelets.  Each charm a reminder of a loved one, or of a special time and place from my past.

I like to use my charms to create a mood.  I want to capture a sentimental feeling with the jewelry pieces I create, like the charm bracelet pictured above.

I love sunflowers, and planted some Mammoth Sun Flowers next to my house for the first time this past spring.  So the sunflower charms were a must.  The strawberry charms remind me of the strawberries my parents and grandparents grew when I was a child, and therefore they remind me of those wonderful times with my family during the hot summer months when we would eat those berries straight from the garden.  The ladybug on the toggle clasp reminds me of the many ladybugs I would catch and put into to baby food jars when I was a kid, and would later free after a short while of studying them through the glass.  The heart shaped toggle clasp reminds of the love I have for life – for my family, for this planet, for the people and creations that dwell upon it, but most of all it reminds me of the love I have for the ONE who created all that I love.

You can easily create your own charm bracelet using charms you already have.  I like to use my charms over and over again to create new pieces that I love to wear.  Look at what you have in your jewelry box.  Maybe there is a broken bracelet, necklace, or earring that you can use.  Be creative – there isn’t a right way or a wrong way to create a charm bracelet, and that’s part of their allure for me.  Use what you love and make your own memorable piece!

Some Items You’ll Need:

To create your own charm bracelet, you’ll need a few key items.  Items like:

  • Charms
  • Jump rings or C rings
  • Beading wire, jeweler’s stretch cord, or a charm bracelet with links
  • A clasp (I used a toggle clasp)
  • Accent beads
  • Spacer beads
  • Crimp beads
  • Tape measure
  • Bead design board
  • Round-nose pliers
  • Crimping pliers
  • Cutting pliers (these are much better than scissors because they are angled and get very close to the area you want to cut off)

What about you?  Do you have a thing for charm bracelets?  Do like to create your own jewelry pieces?  Feel free to leave a comment, and leave a little inspiration too! ;)
