DIY Oatmeal Homemade Face Scrub and Mask
Homemade Face Scrub for the Kitchen Beauty Queen
Have a few minutes of “me time” to spare? Why don’t you whip up a batch of oatmeal face scrub! It’s easy, good for your skin, and you control the ingredients.
This homemade face scrub recipe was inspired by the all-purpose scrub recipe from the book, Organic Body Care Recipes, by Stephanie Tourles. A great book for those interested in making their own organic beauty treats!
Oatmeal is great for all skin types, especially skin that may be irritated or sensitive (like mine). It’s soothing and works well as a gentle exfoliant – a perfect addition to a gentle face scrub recipe. I use this recipe nearly every day as alternative to washing my face with soap.
Here’s what you need:
- 1 cup ground oatmeal (you can make this at home by adding oats to a blender or food processor and processing until you have a fine flour-like mixture)
- 1 teaspoon ground rosemary (dried – the same rosemary you buy in the spice section of your local grocery store)
- A dash of ground cinnamon (optional)
- Purified water (for oily skin), milk (for normal skin), or cream (for dry skin)
{ Whenever possible use good quality organic ingredients. }
Directions:
In a small bowl blend all ingredients together until thoroughly blended. Store in a glass jar or other storage container with a tight fitting lid until ready to use. You don’t have to refrigerate, but make sure to label your mix and keep it away from extreme heat or light – it should last approximately 6 months.
When ready to use, simply measure approximately 1 to 3 teaspoons into a small glass bowl. Add the appropriate liquid for your skin type a few drops at a time until you have a spreadable paste-like consistency; let mixture sit a minute to thicken.
Gently apply scrub to face and neck; rinse with warm water. Follow with your favorite natural moisturizer. You may also use this recipe as a mask (leave it on and let dry for 20 minutes), or mix up enough to use as an all over body scrub.
What do you use to cleanse your skin everyday?
