Action Alert: Don’t Let the USDA Cave to the Pesticide Lobby!
Source: action.ewg.org via Michelle on Pinterest
WE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW WHAT’S ON OUR FOOD!
If you’re like me you rely heavily on EWG’s annual Shoppers Guide to Pesticides. I can’t always buy organic, but with EWG’s Dirty Dozen/Clean Fifteen list I know which items to avoid if they’re not organically grown and which I can compromise on when my budget is tight.
For the past few years the pesticide industry has been lobbying hard to get the USDA to repackage its pesticide data with industry talking points that downplay risks to the public as well as consumer’s concern. We CANNOT let this happen! It is only through complete transparency that we can make informed decisions about the produce we purchase for ourselves and our families. IT’S OUR RIGHT!
Tell the USDA to stand with consumers and NOT the pesticide industry.
If you care about this issue please tweet it, like it, email it, or whatever else you can do. Thanks.
Garlic: Five Food Recipes for Good Health
Food as Medicine
I’m a firm believer in food as medicine – you are what you eat. Garlic, one of the most familiar herbs, is one of the world’s most important and most researched medicinal plants. It’s known for its ability to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, relieve coughs and respiratory infections, support beneficial intestinal flora, and is a potent antibiotic. Aside from garlic’s powerful health benefits, this mighty herb makes food come alive!

Quotes: Spring Inspiration
And I’m loving it! Today was such a beautiful warm day here in the Central Valley – new growth everywhere I looked. I’m inspired and awed by the beauty and miracle that is nature.
I took a short walk with my family around the pond beside our home and spotted so may new little flowers on the ground – so tiny and fragile looking. The bees were out enjoying the gorgeous day with us too. I’m so thankful for the little things in life!
Are you anxious for Spring to arrive too?
GMO Watch: Agent Orange Corn is Coming!
Source: action.foodandwaterwatch.org via Michelle on Pinterest
Tell the USDA You Don’t Want Agent Orange Corn!
Have you heard about this? A new type of genetically engineered corn has been developed which is resistant to a component of Agent Orange (2,4-D). For those who may not know it, Agent Orange is the code name used for a type of herbicide and defoliant used by the U.S. military as part of its herbicidal warfare program during the Vietnam War. It is HIGHLY TOXIC! 2,4-D has been linked to serious health effects following consumption of foods containing these residues.
Time is Running Out! We MUST Act Before February 27th!
We cannot let this happen! I urge you to tell the USDA NOT to approve this genetically engineered corn developed by DOW, a chemical corporation!
You can read about Agent Orange’s lasting effects on the people of Vietnam here. I HIGHLY recommend it.
Please help spread the word about this dangerous new corn by tweeting, liking, or sharing this post on your favorite social networks.

Do It Yourself: Homemade Non-Toxic Dish Soap
I LOVE making things from scratch, but dish soap is an item I’m guilty of purchasing. I’ve tried using diluted Dr. Bronner’s soap for washing my dishes by hand, but it wasn’t what I was looking for in a homemade dish soap – I need to see some suds to know it’s working.

Food Rules: A Short Animated Film Based on Michael Pollan’s Food Rules Lecture
This wonderful animated piece goes along with a lecture given by author and food activist, Michael Pollan. It makes the information given by Pollan easy to understand and dare I say easy to digest. (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.) I first saw this video on Lisa Sharp’s Green Oklahoma website.
This film is part of the RSA/Nominet Trust Film Competition, so if you liked it thank the creators of this film by voting for them.

Drive a lot? You may want find out if your car is hazardous to your health.
Yet another area in life to worry about when it comes to potentially toxic chemical exposure! It amazes me that in 2012 we’re still struggling to make our environments safe and chemical-free. Do you NOT hear us big corporations?
You can find out if your new vehicle smells like a rose or stinks to high heaven when it comes to chemical hazards. You can also tell congress you’re sick and tired of toxic cars and demand car companies use safer chemicals – after all, it’s what we pay them for!
How does your car rate?
